About Us
Welcome to the Big Sur South Coast Fire Foundation, A 501(c)(3) Non-Profit organization dedicated to protecting the public and private lands of Los Padres National Forest in Big Sur, California. With 95% of wildfires in the state caused by human actions, our mission is to combat this threat by conducting routine non-hazardous/non-enforcement patrols within the rugged mountain areas of the South Coast of Big Sur.
Community Volunteer Fire Patrols regularly locate and note vehicles, suspicious behavior, and potentially dangerous activity in areas prone to fire. Patrol units continuously radio updates to a designated Command Post, which relays critical information to the governing law enforcement agencies. Oftentimes, patrol members will walk through dispersed campsite areas and recreation sites, performing public education by stopping and informing patrons about flame restrictions. When appropriate, they will assist in fire extinguishing and mitigation.
We aim to understand and prevent ignition sources, advocating responsible behavior to safeguard our forests from the increasing risk of destructive human-caused wildfires. Join us in preserving this natural haven.
